Yes. In BC the law about landlords and tenants is called the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA). The RTA is different than landlord-tenant laws in other countries and other Canadian provinces.
Never sign something that you do not understand, such as a tenancy agreement. Always try to bring a friend, relative, or settlement worker with you. If you have a problem with your tenancy, it is a good idea to have someone help you write a letter to the landlord. If you get an eviction notice, tell someone right away.
